Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are smart, beautiful, enthusiastic first graders. They come from a variety of cultures, races, and socioeconomic levels. Some of their home languages include English, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and more. As a dual language school, all students are learning to read, write, and speak both English and Spanish.
These curious and persevering children are ready to meet any challenges and learn everything possible!
They always want to know more to make the world a better place. Many students come from low-income homes and have not been able to access resources and experiences that other children take for granted. This does not stop their drive.
My Project
My first graders are excited to learn and are very enthusiastic about the growth that they make in our class, both physical and academic. I strive to make our classroom environment welcoming and comfortable for all of my students. They are all unique and have different learning needs that I try to meet to support each and every student.
These flexible seats will allow students to choose where and how they do their best work so that they are comfortable, engaged, and feel pride in ownership of their learning.
While our classroom already has the typical chairs and a few pillows, these seating options will give students more choices. They’ll also be able to choose between cushions on the floor, a modified lap desk, and wiggle stools.
Students will use flexible seating throughout the entire school day - curling up to read, writing their opinions, applying math concepts, and more! By increasing engagement and focus on their work, all students will benefit from our flexible seating!
