This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a 4th-6th grade teacher for Students with Special Needs in a largely urban city. These students come to school without basic materials or knowledge and are expected to complete work several grade levels above their ability levels.
Having workbooks and adapted readers will allow the students to receive reading and math materials at their learning level rather than their grade level.
This will help students build vital skills for the classroom setting as well as for their state test knowledge.
These students are very hard working but often get frustrated with their short comings, or their classroom teachers inability to understand their needs. This project will not only assist the students, but also classroom teachers to help reach and teach lower learning students.
My Project
Many of my students are at least 1 grade level below their peers. These workbooks will allow the students to complete the same work as their peers, while being on a working level that is appropriate for them. This helps students feel more confident in the classroom because their peers are unaware they are receiving different work.
Many of the students also struggle with completing long assignments due to either attention deficits or working at a much slower pace.
These workbooks will allow students to receive shorter assignments to complete in a timely fashion, while still receiving the content that is needed to complete the state curriculum.
