I teach first grade in Mandeville, Louisiana. This has been a trying year at our school. I am teaching 24 inclusion students in all subject areas. In first grade our main focus is language arts and math. This year my class size was greatly increased due to Hurricane Katrina. Not only have we added so many new relocated students but we are also going through a rough time ourselves trying to rebuild. I am trying to get my literacy work stations up and running successfully but have come across a few set backs. Losing a month of school due to Katrina and Rita did not help. I have only been teaching for four years and am having difficulty accumulating the materials needed to effective use my literacy stations. Not only will I be able to use these materials but they can be shared among all 6 first grade teachers at my school. Listening: At listening station my non readers can enjoy listening to their favorite stories while my readers can follow along. I have an old tape recorder and the headphones, but I only have a few books to use with it. I could really use some more.
