"Worker smarter, not harder!" is a mantra we live by in our classroom. Why spend 10 minutes searching for the right book in the classroom library when we could organize them in brightly colored containers with labels making it easy to spend our time READING instead of SEARCHING?
Our students are very energetic and eager to learn.
Regardless of limited resources, they are content with what we have, ecstatic with new materials, and always willing to share. We like to keep things neat and tidy in our classroom so everything is easy to find. That way, we can spend our valuable time learning and doing fun things we enjoy instead of spending our time wading through disorganized messes to try and find what we're looking for. Organization helps our students de-clutter their minds and structure the way they think in ways that help them develop their critical thinking skills.
My Project
Using these paper trays, our students will be able to take ownership of their work by storing their completed assignments to review at a later date. This also helps us track our progress and choose our favorite artifacts to store in our portfolios. Our organization in the classroom library is definitely lacking. If we had sturdy bins to create a catalog system, we could more readily access our favorite books.
This project is something we've been brainstorming about for a while but never have gotten around to finding the perfect solution for improving our organization in the classroom.
The students keep asking about their saved work because they want to look through it, but I hesitate to just hand over a stack of loose papers to each student; we'd much prefer to have a container to place artifacts in. We can't wait to use what we've learned about genres to tackle the organization of our class library.
