Work Rugs for Hands-On Independent Learning

Help me give my students play dough and Montessori material mats/rugs to work on puzzles, counting, and letter sound recognition for learning through play on a defined, personal space.

My Students

The students in my class are joyful explorers who come to school ready to seek new knowledge through experiencing materials and provocations during their school day.

As soon as they arrive they have the power to choose their learning by selecting materials to play with and learn from.

This learning continues in the afternoon during an open ended work time that invites learners to engage with math, language, art, fine motor, and dramatic play.

I love that my students enjoy school and say “I love this school!”

My Project

These work rugs will define a student’s personal space to work with puzzles, counting, and hands on letter sound matching on the floor in the classroom.

Work rugs make it possible to give one on one, or small group lessons in math and language that can be differentiated to students’ needs.

Additionally they provided a clear a defined place to work in our kindergarten classroom for each child who chooses to work with materials on the floor.

Playdough will be used to make learning math and language more concrete and Sensorial.
