Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are driven, eager, and excited about school. Many of them look forward to coming to school because they are surrounded by people who love and care for them. However, there is also a large population of students who do not show up for school each day.
The majority of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch making us a Title I school.
Many of their parents work more than one job just to make ends meet. Some of our students are homeless, and have no access to basic needs let alone technology. Some students only spend a few hours with their parents each day. Therefore, I try my best to make my classroom as comforting as possible!
We need our students to be ready for college and their future careers. We also need to show them that attendance matters and that professionalism and responsibility is essential.
My Project
When students walk into my classroom, I want them to feel motivated. I want them to walk in ready to learn. Many students walk into the same layout with the same uncomfortable seats in every single classroom.
I believe these additions to our classroom will make the students feel special, welcome and comfortable to work in a space that will drive them to succeed.
Let's face it, sitting on a hard, flat seat with a desk that has been around since 1975 is super uncomfortable. Sitting in a classroom for 90 minutes in those uncomfortable seats will not produce the most optimal results. That's why we need a classroom that appreciates our different learning styles.
