My students are witty, fun-loving, and they work hard each and every day. I am the autism support specialist for my district, so I have the unique opportunity to work with students at each school and at every grade.
Take the opportunity to meet our students and they will make you smile.
Some of our students are in self-contained classrooms and some of our students are in general education classrooms, but may need a little extra support to be successful. They spend their days doing the same things every kid their age does! They do a lot of learning both academically and socially.
My Project
Students in our high school program are learning all about job skills and life skills. They need materials that allow them to practice these skills needed for success in life and to help foster their independence.
These task boxes will help us to provide students in our two high schools with tasks to help start this journey towards adulthood and independence.
Both of our high school programs have "apartments" where students learn life skills such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, making beds, etc. In addition, many of the students work with a vocational program that helps to teach them basic job skills and prepare them for a future career outside of school. The materials in this grant will allow me to provide the teachers in these two schools with pre-vocational task boxes for the students in their classrooms who are preparing to work with the vocational program. I truly need your support to make this a reality. Thanks!
