My students earn behavior and hard work points that they shop with on Fridays.
It promotes teamwork, and effort as well as teaches them how to count and purchase things to practice their financial literacy.
Financial literacy will help my special needs kiddos to learn how to count, add, subtract, and will help them long-term with their knowledge of shopping. They absolutely love squishmallows and incentive charts. Just like you and I go to work for our paycheck and use that paycheck to buy things we desire, want, and need. These kiddos use their Dojo points and behavior bucks to purchase toys and fidgets. It is part of the school-wide PBIS behavior systems as well as part of my classroom reward system.
Each child has a different incentive chart that they work for depending on their individual goals. For example one kid works on turning in homework while another might be working on appropriate language in class. These rewards help strengthen positive reinforcement at school.
