At our IB-for-all school, every 11th and 12th grader participates in the rigorous International Baccalaureate Diploma Program regardless of ability, superpower, or fantastic talent. My students are principled, reflective inquirers who take intellectual risks everyday to achieve academic and personal excellence.
In order to meet the high expectations set for these students, we work with each student to fully accommodate and differentiate to their needs and interests while also teaching important skills such as organization, self-advocacy, and creative problem solving.
Our students come from neighborhoods all over Boston and they bring dozens of different languages, cultures, and customs into our classrooms. We come together, connecting through shared experiences both in and out of the classroom, to create a more equitable, thoughtful, and supportive community for each child.
My Project
My students need a new Quartet Standard Whiteboard to replace our current model, which is simply a stone wall with layers of hand-applied contact paper that has become smudged, scratched, and damaged from years of use. With a new whiteboard, students will be able to see the information, participate in class presentations, and use magnets to post their exemplars and projects. We also need an Epson BrightLink Interactive Projector to replace our current system, which has no speakers and is not compatible with most of our audio/video programs.
An interactive digital display will help students to push the limits of their creativity with interactive presentations, digital classroom visits around the world, peer-to-peer teaching strategies, and manipulation of large-scale text.
This technology will enable my students with visual impairments and learning disabilities to access the material. Additionally, we will be able to post all of the notes and materials to the Google Classroom, allowing students to review the content. Additionally, this technology has the potential to cut down on the use of paper by digitizing many of the kinesthetic learning practices that support cognitive development--it's a win-win for my students and the planet!
When my students have access to a variety of media and different ways to learn, they are more engaged and empowered. A whiteboard and projector will make it possible for students to learn independently, collaboratively, and efficiently.
