Students in my Kindergarten class are very eager learners! Many of these children come to school on the first day not knowing the basic skills young learners need to thrive in school. After hard work and dedication from the students, teachers, and staff, these children begin to soar in their learning!
At my school, over 80% of the students receive free or reduced lunch.
Many of these students do not speak English as their native language. With that being said, most of the students do not have many resources at home to assist with their learning. I want to be able to provide all the resources possible for these precious 5 and 6 year old children!
Kindergarten is no longer a place filled with a full day of play time. Kindergarten is much more rigorous with high expectations for these five and six year old children. They are expected to leave kindergarten reading! The first step in learning to read is letters and sounds. We then move in to blending and memorizing sight words. This can be challenging for students!
I want to make learning to read fun and engaging for my children!
This can not just happen with paper or a book! These young learners need hands on games and materials to strike their interest in reading. Some of these word building games include building blocks with letters and pictures. Students will build a house using the picture block as the roof and the letter blocks as the foundation. What five year old would not love to play blocks while learning?
It is also important for children to be able to write simple cvc words. I would love to have a light up box for my writing students. They would be able to trace words and sentences in a much more fun way than plain paper and pencil.
I would greatly appreciate any donations for this project!
