Our students come from middle-class suburbia. We're located in a small town in Northeast Ohio where Friday nights mean walking to the local cafe after school to enjoy a chocolate chip cookie and football. It's a town steeped in tradition, and our kids attend school in the same building that William McKinley graduated from and Ida Tarbell taught in.
Our buildings are (literally) historical markers.
And while this is amazing, it is often not conducive to learning and playing sports in 2017. Our athletes and students are adaptive and embrace the uniqueness of our school.
My Project
These tools will be used to nurture students' listening, sharing, and creating skills. Digital storytelling surrounds our students-Snapchat stories, Netflix, Youtube videos. As a result, they must learn to use rhetoric and narrative to communicate in our digital and image-based world.
There are stories everywhere you look.
Students will be challenged to create and share personal successes and failures in their own unique ways. Whether using the GoPro from a firsthand point of view, or the green screen to harness the power of their own voice, students will produce high-quality stories in a time-efficient manner.
Schools and classrooms that encourage and support digital storytelling better prepare students for the 21 century.
