Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are K-5th English language learners at a Title 1 school in Central Florida. My ELL students have a lot of varied educational needs, and our tiny budget just cannot fund them all. Newcomers 3rd through 5th must face state testing, no matter their language level, and as such they attend special ELL classes with me, covering all subjects. One thing they all need is a good English word-for-word translation dictionary. This is a tool they must learn to use, as it is critical to their success during state testing.
My Project
I am an English Language Learners (ELL) specialist in Central Florida, serving in a Title I school. Currently, I have approximately 150 students, from Kinder to fifth grade.
We have a very large population of English Language Learners seriously in need of dictionaries!
Upper elementary ELLs, in particular those brand new to the USA, desperately need a word-for-word translation dictionary on hand... and a cool pouch to carry it in. (This Collins Reference dictionary is district and FSA approved!)
It is my desire to bolster their sense of ownership and pride in this deceptively simple tool. A dictionary (in a cool pouch with their name on it!) will go miles in helping them learn English quickly. Thank you! ♥
