Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Words shouldn't be scary, BUT sometimes they are to little children who have fallen behind in reading. Hi, I'm a Special Education teacher in the Bronx who works with students age 9-12. Many of my students have moved up in reading several levels, but some still want to see greater success for themselves. I have chosen two products that I feel will help my children interact with words in a way which is fun rather than scary. - What is grammar? Book set. This is a set of four books that looks at Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives and Prepositions. The books are written in story format so the children will want to read them over and over again (internalizing their grammatical lessons). - Sight Word magnets. These container of sight words covers all levels. While students may become frustrated by not knowing the most basic words in our language, these fun soft magnets allow students to work with words during fun activities. As a teacher I can make many games with these magnets. (ex. children can pick 3 words and then have to use those words in a sentence to develop fluency) Thank you for considering this grant. I'm sure we all want to help students see words as fun and not scary!
