Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Third graders have a lot to learn in a short time. They need to practice, practice, practice. But they don't want to do worksheet pages all day long!
Our school is a Title One urban school in California.
We've had many budget cuts the past few years. My students include children working at various levels, from struggling readers to high achieving gifted independent learners. More than one third of the class is learning English as a Second Language.
My Project
Every day we have an independent work time or universal access time when the teacher works with small groups, while the rest of the class works independently and practices the skills they've been taught. Students write, read, and work in their practice books. These word study resources will offer the students another fun way to practice and review the word analysis standards they need to master in order to be successful in third grade.
Kids are kids, and variety is the spice of life.
They need to use their hands and move around sometimes. My students really enjoy the opportunity to go to a center and get a game or an activity that they can bring back to their desk!
