My students need more materials when it comes to sentence building and sight word recognition. With magnetic letters and sight word building tools, their reading will improve greatly.
I have the privilege of teaching First grade! This is my second year teaching in this school. Our small charter school serves a diverse group of students from Pre-K through 8th grade. We focus on positivity and creative learning environments. Students and families are our priority, which makes our school feel like home!.
I strive to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
We are a tight knit school community dedicated to developing learners who are confident, responsible, reflective, and respectful. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire not only my classroom, but all students.
My classroom is a place of challenge and discovery. Students spend this year learning the foundational skills that will enhance their reading and writing to prepare them for the following year.
My Project
The materials I have asked for will get my students excited for spelling, sentence building, and sight word recognition. First grade is crucial for reading.
Learning to spell helps to cement the connection between the letters and their sounds, and learning high-frequency “sight words” to mastery level improves both reading and writing.
Many of my students struggle with their spelling words and sight word reading. Repetition isn't the answer and often leads to frustration. With the materials I have asked for, such as magnet letters, foam letters, and word building puzzles; these resources will allow my students to learn with a fun twist.
As times are changing, I encourage my students to sound words out on their own and foster critical thinking. "The more deeply and thoroughly a student knows a word, the more likely he or she is to recognize it, spell it, define it, and use it appropriately in speech and writing.” With your help, I will be able to transform my classroom by providing materials to meet my student's needs.
