As a teacher in a low-income community, my students are faced with many adversities beyond their control. My school is a Title I school where over 90% of students receive a free or reduced lunch.
Despite their challenges, my young scholars come to school vibrantly ready to learn and change the world.
Together, my students and I work towards our main goal: to get to and through college. We laugh together, we think together, and together we're making the future a better place.
If you ever walk in our room during Reader’s Workshop you will hear the tone of “Read Baby, Read” echoing through our hallways. Our student love to read and in our class wants to learn to read more books to help build a better tomorrow. Our young cadets are eager to become word detectives who solve tricky words using many different reading skills, but our you readers need your help. Although we have so many eager readers yearning to improve their literacy skills, our students lack engaging materials to help increase their ability to sound out words and comprehending their reading. The Lakeshore learning games gives our students and exciting way of practicing matching beginning sounds, building consonant-vowel-consonant words, and so much more.
First grade is an important year for students to learn how to decode words and begin early comprehension skills.
These interactive literacy games like the Lakeshore Word Building Blocks, Sound-It-Out Phonics Puzzles, Word Family Flip Books, and Mastering Phonics Games Library will help students practice breaking words down by their individual sound, and blending them back together to sound our words. The Tower of Sight-Words Games will ensure that students are quickly identifying their sight words and Reading Comprehension set will allow students a fun way to practice skills such as summarizing and inferring within a text. These materials will function as major tools in helping our kiddos grow as independent word detectives who can use a variety of skills to solve tricky words. Help our readers earn their word detective badges.
