My Students

Nothing is more exciting and challenging than learning to read. Pictures provide the support students need when first learning to read. Picture clues help students figure out words and enable them to read and write many words. Word banks provide pictures/words that relate to a theme.

I teach at a public school in Iowa that has a high level of poverty and a great deal of diversity.

These students deserve the very best education possible. I have high expectations for academics and behavior which help ensure that all students experience success. My students need frequent exposure and practice with letters, sounds, words, pictures, sentences and writing. They are also very eager to learn to read and write.

My Project

My students need word flip books, word puzzles, writing boxes, write and wipe markers and sentence strips that will help them learn to read and write words and sentences. Instilling a love of reading and writing and a feeling of success in every child is my ultimate goal. Word banks expose students to many related words, providing the picture and word, so that students can successfully read the word. Students will use the word puzzles and flip books at literacy stations while I teach small guided-reading groups. Students will work independently putting word puzzles together, reading words, writing words, and sorting related words. I will model the writing process using the sentence strips. The word banks will provide students with many diverse words to include in their writing. The writing boxes are fun to use and encourage students to write grocery lists, restaurant orders, wish lists and things to do. The materials will create greater student interest, provide an appropriate amount of challenge and support, and provide daily opportunities to read and write words and sentences.

By supporting this project, you are helping to improve students' reading and writing abilities and vocabularies.

Your donation will provide students with a wide variety of picture/word puzzles, word flip books, and word rings which will be used at literacy stations to practice reading and writing many different words and sentences. The word banks will definitely be a worthwhile investment and yield high interest.
