Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a high poverty school where our band program is not given a budget yet we still manage to perform at school programs and other venues when the opportunities present themselves. The children are very enthusiastic and respond well to positive interaction. We have seen a lot of personal growth on the part of the students in how they relate to the teachers and relate to their fellow students.
In our school, we have tried to create a culture and climate at our school where the children feel safe and valued and feel free to learn.
We put an emphasis on personal relationships and parental satisfaction.
My Project
Lately, I have not been able to repair corks on the woodwind instruments because we lack the necessary adhesives. When I went to the music store to purchase cork cement, they told me that they do not manufacture it anymore and gave me some other recommendations to try. If we had these adhesives, we would be able to repair our corks and avoid costly repairs at the music shop.
We also need some other woodwind supplies like swabs to clean out the moisture from our instruments, reeds to keep our students playing, folders for housing our music, name tags for identifying our instruments and folders, plastic tokens for our bingo music game, and a book to make sure everyone has their own for home practice.
All these materials will keep our students playing and will sustain the woodwind players present and future.
