My students need improve their reading writing skills. I would like to use the LCD Projector and the Document Camera to display and celebrate student writing.

My Students

At our school children are learning to love reading and writing because we give them access to books that interest them. We show a genuine interest in the stories they have to tell themselves with their writing.

We are a school in an under served urban area in California.

Most of our student are lower income. Our staff is trying to bridge the education gap for African American and English Language Learners by offering a rich and relevant Language Arts Program inspired by the Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project in New York.

My Project

Our students do not have books at home. They have never sat on a lap and had a story read to them as a child. The technology I am requesting will give the whole class a shared reading experience because I will be able to display books on a large screen. I can do the same thing with their writing. Students swell with pride when their writing is displayed under the document camera. Students are successful when they feel engaged. My students need to improve their reading writing skills. I would like to use the LCD Projector and the Document Camera to display and celebrate student writing.

Most of our students came to us two years behind grade level.

Each year we have managed to significantly close that gap. We are already outperforming all the other second graders who attend neighboring schools. Having this technology will make teaching so much easier. It will reduce a need for paper copies and it will increase student engagement.
