Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are located in northeast Houston, Texas. My students are between 4-5 years old. We are a Title I school which means we're in a predominately low income area. Despite their home struggles, my students are eager to learn and love school. They come to school so happy and energetic to learn something new every single day. Seeing their smiles and eyes light up brings me so much warmth to my heart. They are more than just students they're my own children.
My Project
Pre-K is the foundation to a great education. Not only do I teach all my students the foundation they're needing to begin their school journey, I teach them to love school and to love learning. These writing materials I selected for my classroom will help them become strong, independent writers. I have many that have never held a writing tool in their lives. With the tools I selected, they're able to strengthen fine motor skills to get them to learn how to write comfortably. Once they've mastered that skill and have learned their sight words, they are ready for real life sentences. These sight word sentence makers are perfect for my class. The pictures are nice and bright with bold wording. With patience and practice, my students will get to independently create their own sentences and copy them down on their own. This in turns are getting them ready for kindergarten where they'll be able to tell us entire stories and be able to write them down! Within just a couple of months of school, seeing the growth in the students is such a heart warming feeling.
