At the end of this year I would like my students to be more independent, creative, confident, and love learning more than they did when they started 3rd grade!
My class is an energetic group of seven and eight year olds who love learning new things.
Our school is located in a rural area in South Carolina in a suburb of Greenville. We are not a high poverty school and we are not a wealthy school, however, this category has its own set of challenges. Many of our students receive free or reduced price lunch and accept community donations for back to school supplies and meals for the holidays. Despite our challenges I strive to provide a positive learning environment for my students. I am passionate about delivering meaningful lessons with real life applications and hope to inspire my students to love learning.
My Project
Student whiteboards are a simple yet effective tool for formative assessment. They are a great instrument to get students involved in the lesson with something other than pencil and paper. Not only does it excite the students to use whiteboards and markers it helps me gauge where my students' understanding is. When students hold up their whiteboards with an answer, I can easily scan the room and determine who has mastered the concept that I'm teaching and who needs additional support. Then, I can divide students into groups to differentiate the instruction based on each student's needs.
This donation will improve my classroom by giving me the tools to reach each student.
Whiteboards can be used in any subject to support any standard. Not only will it help my 21 students this year, it will impact many more students in the years to come.
