Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students in grades K-5 love fiber arts. We have been slowly building up our supplies in the art room for our fiber arts center. This project will help us be able to continue learning and experimenting with stitching, sewing and weaving in the art room. Students in grades K-5 will use these materials each year they come to the art room. The projects we have planned include circle weaving, stitching on paper and sewing on burlap. I've also added a book by my favorite art teacher, Cassie Stephens, that will give us some more ideas for art projects. Lastly, I've asked for some books for my student library about weaving that I can read to them to get them excited about their upcoming projects. Many of my students are students with disabilities and they are also excited to learn how weaving can work for them!
