My art class is a place for adolescents at my school to explore their creativity. They learn critical thinking skills and practice important hand eye coordination activities. In a world that is surrounded by art and design, it is important for students to understand basic concepts about the arts.
"To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow." - Kurt Vonnegut.
My students have the opportunity to challenge themselves, and they learn and grow every day in my classroom. I hope to give them all the necessary tools to accomplish this growth.
My students love to work with watercolor paints. They are familiar with the basic procedures involved with painting with watercolor, but often times need some guidance to learn how to turn those basic level skills into expert level skills. Learning how to use materials properly often times involves using the materials quite often, and usually we go through quite a bit of watercolor paints in a semester. My students will be making a number of projects with the watercolor paints: non-representational works of art that focus more on shapes and feelings, realistic and textured paintings of fish, and abstracted portraits.
