My students, the Herons, are soaring in school this year. The kiddos, despite having multiple handicapping conditions, including ADHD, autism, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, and emotional concerns, come to school each and every day eager to learn and do their best. They are members of a self-contained, multi-age, learning community.
This year, we're making a rainbow of possibilities happen!
I teach at a Title I school in Florida where 100% of our students are offered free breakfast and lunch. The school is an exceeding expectations school.
Students are developing a growth mindset. They know mistakes mean you're trying something new. In our class, we don't say we can't do anything. Instead, we say, we can't do it, yet. We like to challenge ourselves to reach our goals. And, of course, celebrate once we achieve them.
The students and I worked together to create our vision, mission statement, and motto. Our classroom vision: A peaceful classroom with happy successful students. Our motto: We make great things happen.
Our Mission statement: We will lead: Love learning, Encourage our friends, Achieve goals, Do what is right.
My Project
These Hands-on Science Centers, Lab Kit and microscope will help get students thinking like scientists as they master key Next Generation Science Standards. Some of the standards include: Planning and conducting an investigation to provide evidence to support or disprove a hypothesis; Making observations and/or measurements of an object to provide evidence that a pattern can be seen; Making observations using lab equipment such as a microscope and a magnifying glass; Representing data in tables and graphs; Following the Scientific Method; and so much more.
These information-packed kits encourage kids to conduct investigations that support Science Standards.
Children in my class learn best when fully involved in small cooperative groups with hands-on learning that this Science equipment will provide. They will ask to use the materials and continue their learning even during free time.
