We are an urban high school where there is a lack of necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. I have taught here for 17 years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students.
Over the years, I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had.
I strive to expose them to as many diversified artistic experiences as I can.
The students enjoy using underglaze because the colors are solid and brilliant. They are used like paint and enable students to see the true colors of their finished product.
We have just used up the last of our underglaze supply and the students are asking for more.
Using them to paint on plates and to make patterns on pottery has been a fun part of the class. The students are very productive and are looking forward to learning more skills and continuing exploring with clay and different decorating techniques. Having the underglaze will help them continue to build on what they have learned so far this year.
