Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are motivated to learn, but like all learners, need to feel empowered to "go beyond" simply meeting the standards. The students I support are majority Title 1 (free/reduced lunch) recipients. Many of these students also come from families that work extremely hard, with parents that sacrifice family time, because they have to work two to three jobs just to make ends meet. Many of these students also lack the enrichment or access to activities that challenge them in a fun and engaging manner.

My Project

The Cue and Dash robots will allow my students to work on 21st-century skills, including computational thinking and developing a debugging mindset, which are essential future-ready skills. Having exposure to robotics has proven to be beneficial in strengthening critical thinking, which can lead to better performance in mathematics and science related courses. Leveling the playing field by engaging my students in robotics is crucial to my work.

In addition, my students are currently working on green-screen movie-making and these robots can help provide them with endless creative possibilities.

Leveraging the drone for filming above our school campus will create great shots to teach our students about drones in cinema and promote our school as well.
