The students in my 1st grade classroom are eager to learn to read and write. They are motivated by a wide selection of writing activities. These students often come to school with a lower experience with literacy than peers in area districts. Our school is in a high poverty area, and all students get free breakfast and lunch.
My 1st grade students are up for the challenge of reading and writing.
They are thirsty to be independent readers and writers and are working hard to be successful.
My Project
My students love to use marker boards and dry erase markers. We use them multiple times per day in my 1st grade classroom. We do phonics activities on them. We practice sentence dictation on them. We practice math problems on them. After 17 years, they are getting pretty worn out so I am requesting 36 dry erase lap boards, markers, ruled paper and a create-a-story paper center with additional paper.
In our classroom, we use many different ways to practice writing including marker boards and markers and paper and pencils.
This project will provide my students many different modes to practice writing across the curriculum. Our district is in a financial crunch, and I haven't even been able to buy writing paper. The project will fill this need.
