My special education classroom is very diverse, and the students have great difficulty accessing the General Education Core in math, reading, writing, science, social studies and technology. Every student deserves to succeed academically regardless of ability.
All students can learn, many children today have a different way of learning and require a variety of opportunities, experiences, and resources to succeed and build their self-confidence.
Our classroom is composed of 55 special needs students from kindergarten to sixth grade. Many of them are from lower-income households and struggle in the academic setting due to learning disabilities, health impairments, autism, communication and behavior disorders. Students with special needs are frequently pushed aside, given busy work, or considered “un-teachable.”
Our classroom is lacking the materials required to meet the diverse demands of our learners. This project will help close that gap and improve our students' chances for success.
The wobble chair feet will allow those students who are more active to stay on task while they are able to move. Since the feet fit on the bottom of the student’s chair, they will still have back support while moving.
I am requesting additional headphones for my class.
I do not have a complete set and the ones I do have are beginning to give out. This will help students when they are learning at home or in the classroom.
Also, I am requesting binders and dividers so that I can set up home binders for the students that are just like their class binders. This way the students have the same work at home as they do in our classroom and can join our class virtually and not worry about not having the lessons we are working on.
Lastly, I am asking for a pencil sharpener. Our class sharpener is no longer sharpening our pencils and it is very frustrating for the students who like using sharp pencils.
