The school that I teach in is filled with students excited to learn and a staff that recognizes the potential in all students. A large number of students are on free and reduced lunches and many receive food for the weekend through the backpack program. Our students are of various races and cultures and live in the suburbs as well as the city. My first grade class consists of students of different ability levels and backgrounds. I work to establish a classroom environment where all students feel valued and lessons are engaging and differentiated. It Is heartwarming to see my students eager to learn and do their best!
My Project
The Sony headphones would be used every day in my first grade classroom. This year we have four Chromebooks that students use to practice reading and math skills. While four students are on the computers, others are in reading groups or reading silently. It's important for the computer sounds to be turned on; however, the sounds can be distracting to the other students, even on low volume.
Having headphones would allow students to hear the directions, prompts, and stories on the computer programs, as well as block out other noises without disturbing the other students.
The Sony headphones would be invaluable in our classroom! In addition to the headphones, my students would benefit from being able to sit on flexible seating while on their Chromebooks. Wobble stools would help my students learn and work better as they allow movement while still sitting. Together with the headphones, Chromebook time will become so much more valuable and educational as students will be able to hear their software better and be able to focus better on the wobble stools.
