My students need flexible seating to move and be comfortable in a fully tiled classroom. This includes 4 balance balls, 4 Wobble stools, 4 Wobble Cushions, and a carpet for floor seating!
I currently teach 5th grade in a Title 1 School. Most of my students are living below the poverty line and receive free or reduced lunch. While they cannot help these circumstances they are pushing through them everyday to achieve their own personal goals as well as class goals. We are working on literacy and comprehension, math skills, and scientific inquiry everyday by reading novels, solving real life math problems, and engaging in hands on scientific inquiry everyday! My students are incredibly bright and love to learn from one another but our traditional classroom setting is holding them back.
My students are divergent thinkers, creators, innovators, and up-standers who would thrive under a kinesthetic classroom in a Title- 1 School!
Under a kinesthetic classroom, students would be able to move while learning using yoga balls, wobble stools, raised desks, and floor seats. Allowing this freedom to wiggle and stand eliminated the need for movement and allows them to think diligently on the task at hand. After all they are kids and they should be able to move! Sitting in traditional chairs with no option can leave students feeling frustrated, stuck, and bored!
My Project
If fully funded, I plan to implement a full kinesthetic learning environment in my Title 1 classroom. Without this project, this environment would not be possible.
Through this environment, students will learn self control, responsibility, how to collaborate with others, how to share, as well as how to take charge of their own learning by choosing spaces that work best forthem!
Wobble Stools, Wobble Seats, and a carpet allow students to work in ways that are most comfortable to them.This learning environment lets students still be kids while being successful in the classroom by removing the need to wiggle and move. In a traditional setting most kids are not allowed to stand, lay down, or wiggle during assignments- in my classroom they will always be encouraged to!
