My students are fifth grade students at a diverse school. They are coming from different backgrounds. We are in our second year at a new school, and we have limited funding. The students come from a variety of backgrounds and socio-economic groups, but one thing they all have in common is their excitement for this school of choice.
I am trying very hard to provide my students with a classroom that is designed to assist them in reaching their full potential and achieve the confidence they need to reach their goal of being successful fifth graders.
My hope is that every student will want to come into my classroom everyday and have the desire to learn in a comfortable environment. We have some cushions and some barstools already and want to complete our flexible seating project.
They are bright and enthusiastic. I can't wait to see them every day.
My Project
My students are growing fifth graders. They have a difficult time sitting in hardback chairs for their class period. Many like to stand, sit on the floor, rock in their chairs, and many more moves. When students are at home, they do not sit in a straight hardback chair, therefore, I hope to provide the kind of environment that they will feel comfortable in. Some of them need other types of sitting to ensure all of their energy is used in a positive manner. Having wobble stools will give them the opportunity to have movement while still achieving their learning goals.
