My school is a Title I school that serves approximately 400 students in grades 6-8. One hundred percent of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch and some have no permanent home. Despite this, my students work extremely hard to overcome the many obstacles that they face on a daily basis, such as ADHD, homelessness, etc.
One of the best parts about my school is that we have such a diverse background of students.
Many might not come from a prosperous background, but they soak up every opportunity they have to learn, and this project will help the library gain materials that will help ensure all of my students have materials to be successful.
My Project
Did you know that the average middle school student has an attention span of 8-10 minutes? These years can be an incredibly awkward and tough time for them, especially students with ADHD. They are full of energy, and with that energy, they have a hard time staying focused and on task. This project will provide the library with six comfortable wobble chairs. These chairs will allow my energetic students to be able to get that energy focused in a positive manner--allowing them to concentrate on their learning. It is a win-win for everyone!
With energetic middle school students this time of year, unfortunately, germs seem to spread quickly and we need to replenish our supplies for the flu season.
This project will help keep the library clean and my students healthy. I will be able to prevent the spread of germs by having Lysol spray to disinfect the library tables and computers. The Magic Erasers will help keep everything clean. I can see over 200 students a day, and you can imagine how quickly illness can spread with that--yikes! Students who are at home sick are losing valuable school time, and I want to do all that I can do to keep all of my students here, healthy, and learning!
