Wobbling Creates Healthy Learning
Help me give my students a variety of ball chairs to foster a healthy learning environment.
I am blessed with 18, first grade students in my classroom who are eager to learn and explore the world around them. However, my students come from many different backgrounds, which sometimes makes it difficult for students to be exposed to grade-level content at home. Students come from homes that are unable to provide basic supplies, not to mention school supplies. They are made up from a diverse set of backgrounds and include English language learners, special education students, and those receiving free or reduced-price lunches. Some of my students may even experience being homeless during the school year. Homelessness is an experience that individual people have, rather than a label. It is my goal as their teacher to provide them with basic necessities.
70% of our students receive free or reduced-price meals.
My students are very grateful for your support!
When asking my students what they enjoyed most in school, they mostly responded recess and P.E. I then asked them how we could make our classroom more like these places and let me tell you, their ideas are brilliant!
My students told me that they loved to jump, bounce and move!
I loved the idea because research shows that our students' brains work better with active body movement. Therefore, I am requesting a variety of flexible seating options such as wobble and ball chairs to help support this research. My students need to keep their bodies physically active in order for their little brains to learn. They need to move as they learn. Having these requested ball chairs will provide their brains and bodies the opportunities to learn and be healthy!
