I have been a classroom teacher for 13 of my 23 years in the school system. After 10 years as an assistant, I went school to earn my degree and have never regretted it or looked back! I love to read and enjoy my time reading to my students. I want to inspire a love of reading in all of my kids but especially for my struggling readers.
I believe that reading is the key to success and I want all of my kids to succeed!
I have a 90 minute reading block that requires my kids to sit for 20-30 minutes in a small group with me. That is a long time for a child to stay focused and they try their very best. I am super proud of them and want to try to help them out and get rid of some wiggles in the process.
My Project
This year we have focused on improved reading stamina and time on task. Our class has many health related needs and we have learned how to compensate through a variety of exercise and breathing techniques. We spend 20-30 minutes in our small group reading teams each day and that can feel like a lifetime to young children.
Allowing my kids the opportunity to wobble and wiggle while they learn is a win-win for our entire class.
We need wiggle cushions to make this happen so the kids get rid of extra energy while I get focused time on task in reading.
My budget has been reduced each year. Without the help of generous donors, we can not afford even the most basic supplies. Please help me to get my students the tools we need for a successful reading time.
