My sweet students are some of the hardest working kids I have ever met. All of the students I work with have disabilities ranging from down cognitive disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, specific learning disabilities to behavioral disabilities. Learning is not always easy, but they try so hard everyday. We have found that sitting all day on hard plastic chairs is hard to do. Little bodies need to engage their cores and have options for seating that suit their learning. Our students have a wide variety of needs and we need to try to meet them all! Additional flexible seating options would give them choices and much needed options to wiggle, wobble, stretch, and balance. While their bodies are happy, their brains will be able to stay engaged in learning. These chairs will help them stay where they need to be, and engage in learning, while also engaging their core bodies. I want to make their learning environment the best that I possibly can so they can make progress towards their goals.
My Project
I am asking for six new wiggle chairs (in varying sizes) to accommodate for the different grade levels (K-5th grade) that I teach. These wiggle chairs will allow my students to wiggle, bounce, balance, and stretch while learning and attending to tasks. The wiggle chairs will help keep their bodies in control while supporting their daily learning. They will be able to choose from a variety of chairs in our classroom to best meet their needs. My students will be so excited to have new seating options to choose between for small group instructional time. These chairs will help foster a learning environment where they feel safe and comfortable in our classroom.
