My students come from different backgrounds and some even speak different languages, but the one thing they all have in common is a desire to learn and be successful. In order to help them become successful I have created a classroom where the students learn by doing and collaborating with each other. Unfortunately, they still spend the majority of their day sitting still and that needs to change!
These students need to have a classroom environment that promotes movement while learning.
My Project
Each year students explain that they "can't sit still" and "need to fidget". They want to be able to move, stretch, stand, and wobble while at school learning.
In other words, they want to ditch their traditional desks and chairs!
Research shows that movement directly correlates to learning and time on task. Adding four Regency wobble stools to our Meet the Teacher station and bouncy bands to every desk will give every student the opportunity to move while learning. Of course, the Regency wobble stools will not be limited to just the Meet the Teacher station; these alternative seats can be taken to their desks during direct instruction and seat work as well.
These materials will make my classroom more comfortable and suitable for learning.
