Help me give my students the ability to wobble while they work in the midst of a more restrictive classroom environment during this unusual school year.
This year, I will be teaching 20 amazing students from various backgrounds. Last year, I had several students from different countries- including Mexico, Hungary, Germany, and Mongolia. My school is a Title 1 school, meaning that 77% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. My school is a neighborhood school, meaning that most of the students bike or walk to school.
In my classroom, I focus on developing the whole student.
Although I focus mostly on academics, I strive to incorporate skills such as being a good listener, leader, and friend, that foster and develop the whole child. Creating rigorous and engaging lessons to help my students be successful in the classroom is my goal.
Our class is a part of a larger school body that focuses to create well-rounded learners by developing the whole-person and preparing students to become life-ready learners.
My Project
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my usual classroom procedures look drastically different this school year. Usually, my students are up and moving constantly throughout the day, however, social distancing has changed our usual routines. Students will be in individual desks that are 6 feet apart. There are many space restrictions in my classroom, so this will inhibit my students ability to move around the room as usual. Movement is vital for engaging lessons and learning. Last year, I had two generous donors who gifted me with 14 of these wobble stools.
When we aren't allowed to move, we have to wobble!
Last year, not everyone of my students had the opportunity to use a wobble stool. Students have been added to my roster. This year, my classroom will only be missing three wobble stools to have an entire set. I do not want anyone to excluded from this opportunity. I am asking for three more wobble stools; so everyone in my classroom will be able to move their body throughout the day and keep social distancing protocols. Flexible seating allows students to activate their brain cells and gives them some sense of normalcy. Even though this school year will look different, I am hopeful for engaging learning and growth in my classroom with the help of this flexible seating option!
