My kids are growing up in a small town in Utah. There are around 160 kids in our school. The population of their town is about 1,000 people. You could say my kids are growing up in a close knit community.
I teach two ages of kids my 3rd graders are 8 to 9 years old and my 4th graders are 9 to 10.
The students in my class are amazing and inspire me everyday. They are hardworking respectful kids. I love my students and want to everything I can do to help the succeed in their academics and life.
My Project
Wobble while you gobble up learning is for my students to have the opportunity to have more flexible seating in my classroom. As of right now my students have three different choices. They can set in a regular desk, at the table or at the floor sitting table. This is something I tried for the first time this year and Its working! My students get to choose where they want to sit for the next two weeks on Fridays.
My students love flexible seating options!
Having 23 kids in one class and 26 in the other it makes it hard to give everyone a chance at the fun learning spots. With the two flexible seating options I only have ten spots. The kids are always sad when they have to choose a regular desk when its their turn. If I were to receive funding for these wobble chairs I could create 8 more seating spots. There is so much that the kids have to learn in a year that I want to create somewhat of a fun learning atmosphere.
Although flexible seating is fun thats not all it is about. Flexible seating gives my students the opportunity to learn in the position that they learn best. I have a little girl in particular that is excelling in class and I think part of it is that she usually sits at the sitting table. She is able to sit comfortably on her rug and focus on learning. I want to create one more choice for my students to help those students that just need to wiggle and wobble while the learn. I am a strong supporter of flexible seating.
