Our class is made up of 20 amazing first graders! My students are excited to return to school and give their best effort! They are creative, kind, and eager to get back into a routine.
Many students in my classroom have learning needs that require a more modern approach to schooling.
As with most children, we have a variety of learners with varying abilities and needs. Using multiple learning strategies, working in small groups, and providing an enriching curriculum are just a few ways that we are able to meet children where they are at. This is an incredible group of learners and I am looking forward to another fun-filled and engaging year!
My Project
Having an inviting, comfortable, and safe atmosphere in our classroom is essential to student learning. Last year, we took the plunge into flexible seating and the children have absolutely loved it! They have been able to choose a spot that is “best for their body to learn” and have learned about respect and responsibility of property. To have that awareness at such a young age has been a joy to watch!
However, due to natural wear and tear, and some unfortunate events, some of our seating options have dwindled.
We quickly learned which options of flexible seating may not be appropriate for first graders and which ones have really held up! Therefore, the goal for this project is to provide some sturdy, engaging, and exciting seating to our classroom setting.
Wobble stools have provided some of our students with the ability to move in their seat, be in an appropriate position for working, and is a safe seating option. Due to our success in the classroom with the few that we have, our class is asking for ten more to be able to provide more students with this seating arrangement.
