This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a Title 1 STEM school, with 100% of students eligible for free or reduced breakfast and lunch.
While the majority of my students come from a low income, single-parent home, they are willing, eager and ready to learn.
My school and classroom culture is overwhelmingly welcoming and encouraging. Students are supported, guided and inspired to be successful in and out of the classroom.
My school is state funded, and unfortunately my state's pockets are far from deep. While we are fortunate to have access to a few computer workstations, they are not the most reliable (or updated) which can cause difficultly to plan around the technology issues.
My Project
Do you think kids learn best by sitting still in the same seat all day? Actually, they don't! For most students it is a struggle to sit still and stay in the same place all day long. While things like recess and brain breaks are helpful to stimulating small minds, sometimes they just need a little more!
Little bodies are meant to move, wiggle, and shake!
In addition to having opportunities to move around the classroom, our students need seating that is developmentally appropriate. With wobble stools, our class will be able to safely move, wiggle, and shake during their work time. This will increase students productivity, application of knowledge, and overall learning.
