I teach in a very diverse community with students who come from many different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. We have families trying hard to make ends meet and provide for their children, and they are looking to their neighborhood school for support in educating and loving their kids.
My second-graders are thoughtful, hard-working children who are doing their best to succeed.
Our school is often the safest, most stable place in their lives, and they are eager to thrive. Their learning styles are just as diverse as their family lives, and we do our best to provide the tools they need to learn and grow to the best of their abilities. The pressure of higher standards in education paired with less time for free-play, recess, and physical activity requires us to be creative in keeping our students' bodies moving and their minds engaged. We work hard every day to meet students where they are and push them to reach farther to meet their incredible potential.
My Project
Children need to move! There are high expectations for our students to focus and learn and pay attention, but their little bodies just want to wiggle.
These wobble stools are the perfect answer!
While sitting in a small group, children will have to use their core muscles to sit up and balance. Keeping their bodies moving will help them focus on their reading and/or math tasks within their group, without getting antsy and distracted. They'll be getting physical activity without even realizing it and learning at the same time.
These stools encourage children to get their energy out in a productive, appropriate way while being able to complete work. My second graders will love these, and they will especially be helpful for my most fidgety, struggling readers.
