All children need move around and be active! While the daily demands of school require that students work at desks or stations a portion of the day, that does not mean that they have to sit still in hard chairs that limit their mobility, activity, and brain power.
My students are just like any other student and they need to be able to get their jitters out so that they can learn to the best of their ability!
My 4th graders are part of a community school that is in a small rural area of Alabama. Because of where we are located and the limited industry in the area, my class is in need of support from other areas. Many of the students are from low socioeconomic homes and receive free or reduced lunch services on a daily basis. Please help provide for my class so that they can have the resources they need in the classroom!
Students need to be physically active in order for their brains to be active! The way students learn is constantly changing due to their exposure to new technology, new teaching strategies, and new ways of life and activity. This means that it is crucial that educators stay up with the times! But why are wobble chairs a good idea to promote student learning?
Active bodies means active minds, and wiggling and wobbling is a great way to keep students engaged!
Think about it... if you are uncomfortable or bored, how much would you learn from a situation or discussion going on around you. When students are uncomfortable and/or inactive, they tend to be disengaged and are not building new knowledge and understanding.
Simply put, if moving around on wobble stools allows students to engage in growth of knowledge, and it is not a distraction to others around them, why wouldn't we let them "Wobble 'til They Gobble... (Up a Whole Lot of Learning)!"
