Help me give my students flexible seating options in the classroom. By having this chair available in the classroom, students will hopefully have reduced anxiety regarding hybrid learning and readjusting to the classroom environment.
I am a special education teacher. My students are diverse in their disabilities. Many have learning disabilities and are struggling to achieve academically during remote learning even more so than they would under normal circumstances. My students are thirsty for knowledge and are putting their best foot forward in this new world of virtual school. They have made me so proud when it comes to their personal growth in self advocacy, problem solving tech issues and refusing to give up even when it feels overwhelming. Students that I have not even had the pleasure of formally meeting are making connections with me. They strive to make me proud and even more importantly, themselves.
My Project
Currently our school is operating under a hybrid model with only a few students attending live class in the building. As a special education/inclusion teacher, I am trying to find a way to help my students adjust to the transition of hybrid versus virtual. Students anxiety levels are at an all time high and they are struggling emotionally which is reflected in their performance, behavior and over all demeanor.
By offering flexible seating options to students attending hybrid, my hope is to not only reduce their anxiety about being in the building but also the transition of trying to maneuver their way through focusing on instruction in person while also multi-tasking with online instruction.
The seats will allow them to release their nervous energy while still focusing on the huge task of virtual learning without being a distraction to the teacher who is already struggling to provide instruction to face-to-face students and those at home all at the same time.
