Mrs. Chodes-Squibb from Springfield MO is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students flexible seating wobble cushions. Additionally, you will provide alterternative seating outside of traditional desks! Not only will my students with ADHD benefit, but all of my kiddos will love this choice.

Kids are amazing humans! In my ten years of teaching, I've opened my heart to about 250 students. Every year, I learn and grow as a human and an educator because the children that have captured my heart year after year, teach me about flexibility, patience, perseverance, and love. In the city where I teach, students enrolled in elementary school (Grades 1-4) have a poverty rate of 34.8%. The students I serve come to a Title I Federally funded school each day. Over 80% of our students receive a free or reduced priced lunch. However, this doesn't stop my kiddos (as I like to call them) from coming to school each day with a desire to learn and grow.
Students love coming to a warm, inviting and comfortable, yet modern and engaging classroom environment that offers student choice.
I have carefully selected items for this project because it will provide a more modernized and functional classroom for students. Stern Neil and Rebecca Etheridge of Washington University, contend that “Pedagogical innovation demands a space that enables exploration by both teacher and student.” Yet, traditional classroom environments do not lend itself to this thought process. Traditional desks often create a classroom environment that
My Project
My intent with this project is to maximize student seating options within the classroom, create student choice, and develop increased engagment in the classroom.
Flexible seating creates an active learning environment in which students “become incredibly responsible” as teachers ease up on the need to have total control of the classroom. It allows for easier collaboration amongst students to aide in making learning experiences more personal. The goal is to create a more learner centered environment where the teacher can move as a facilitator from student-to-student or group-to-group.
This flexible seating option, will provide opportunities for an individual space should the student need time to work indepently, ease of mobility for small groups, PBL partnerships, reconfiguration for open floor space, and ease of regrouping to whole group.
My hope is to provide a warm, inviting and comfortable, yet modern and engaging classroom environment that offers student choice. Thank you for considering my students and our classroom.
