Help me give my students a chance to get their wiggles out! These Wobble Chairs will give the most fidgety fourth graders an outlet for their limitless energy during class time!
"What?! How is RELA class almost over? I don't want it to end!" - Actual quote from a fourth grader
To be honest, I didn't expect to hear my students groan when reading class was coming to an end.
But our classroom has become a place where we read challenging texts, explore visual art, and engage in thoughtful discussions. It is a place where every voice is heard. And the students respond to that sense of community, they pick up on my excitement and my love of reading, and they are genuinely interested and motivated to put in the work to become better readers and writers.
I teach reading and language arts to three classes of curious, compassionate, and creative fourth graders. Teaching 75 students means that I encounter a wide variety of needs in my classroom, from reluctant readers who need support to bonafide bookworms who need more of a challenge. No matter their academic needs, ALL of my students need a classroom environment that allows for flexibility, independence, and comfort.
My Project
Research has shown time and time again that providing varied seating options is beneficial to students of all ages. All too often, the learning environment is dictated to students and mandated by teachers, but it doesn't always benefit all children. It is important to give students the opportunity to think about how they learn best, and to reflect on the learning environment that is most beneficial to their success. It is my goal to provide my fourth graders with flexible seating options that will help them achieve their goals in reading and writing.
These Wobble Chairs will provide a flexible seating option to help my fourth graders expend their boundless energy!
Fourth graders are wiggly and wobbly by their very nature! And not all kids feel confident and successful in traditional seating arrangements. A variety of seating choices, like these Wobble Chairs, helps students reflect on their own learning style and take ownership of their own classroom experience.
With these Wobble Chairs, my fourth graders will have an additional option for seating in our reading class. These chairs will be used daily as we read rigorous texts, write narratives filled with sensory details, and engage in deep discussions as a class.
