Wobble Chairs for Wild Bodies!

My students need these Wobble Chairs so that during their Reading Group time and center work, they will be able to alleviate some of the ADD/ADHD angst & be able to focus better on reading strategies.

My Students

My students work with me in the only 4/5 combination class on campus and come from a varying degree of cultural, intellectual and socioeconomic backgrounds. Being able to meet the needs of all 33 kids each and every day is a challenge, to say the least.

Each child enters my class with his/her own trunk of luggage from home that has to be sifted through and somewhat overcome before any teaching can even REALLY begin, and it is my goal to try and minimize distraction and any outside deterrents that may get in the way of their learning.

I cannot control what goes on at home, or how much support each child will or will not get from their families. While they are in my class, however, I can make the environment as learning friendly, distraction-free, and make available multiple modalities for acquiring knowledge so that each child can be successful.

My Project

These chairs are just one line of defense that I can use to combat any outside hinderance in my students' learning. If something as simple as Wobble Chairs can improve focus, as studies have shown, then I am all for incorporating them into my instructional plan!

Allowing students access to flexible seating will give them an outlet for their ever-present and over-flowing energy which, for many, tends to inhibit their ability to acquire new information and have it "stick".

As a former special education teacher, I know how important the need to regulate outside stimuli is. If I can use these as an instrument to help in that way, then I am excited to do so.
