Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach in an inner city neighborhood charter school in Oklahoma. We serve kids in a high crime and high poverty neighborhood. Over 90% of our kids are on free and reduced-price lunch. A lot of our kids come from difficult situations. Our school goes above and beyond to meet the needs of each child. I have never seen or been a part of a staff that works together so well. There is something truly amazing happening in our school.

My Project

Sitting still is overrated. Wobble cushions will allow my students to move around in their chairs without disturbing other students. These cushions are a nice mix between exercise balls and regular chairs. The students will be able to move and have the stability of a regular chair. Moving in their seats also has a calming effect on the students and allows them to concentrate on their work. I have several alternative seat options in my class and wobble cushions will allow the students more choices. These seats will excite and encourage students to keep their focus on reading for a longer period of time. Everyone wants to meet their goals!
