This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work at the best middle school in Jefferson County (NO DOUBT)! My school serves students grades 6th to 8th and provides rigorous academics in a safe environment. Our number one priority is to prepare students for becoming successful for not only high school, but also college. My students come from all different kinds of backgrounds. Most speak English and some don’t. I believe that my students deserve the best materials even though they may not live in the best communities. My students are high achievers and I believe they can benefit and perform just as well as private or more elite school students if given the opportunity to have access to the same materials those students have. Because I work in a high poverty or free/reduced-price lunch school, I cannot ask students to bring anything other than pencils, and paper.
I have a passion for teaching like no other but it is difficult to do so when you have limited resources to keep students engaged and interested in learning.
My Project
My cheerleading team is eager to cheer on our Falcons at every game and competition. However, last year, we found it was very hard to travel to competitions without everyone having their own bag. Several times cheerleaders left parts of their uniform home because they did not have anything to put their equipment in. I am requesting 15 bags that help keep our uniforms, shoes, and poms together in one place.
Having these bags to the team, it will guarantee that they have everything they need for each practice.
I am also requesting pom poms to help maximize our points at competitions. Last year we lost several competitions because we did not have the required props. These poms will also be used for games and pep rallies. Finally, I am asking for white socks. In the cheerleading world, it is important that everyone looks the same from head to toe. These socks will ensure that everyone is in full uniform. This is a middle school group, which means staying organized and uniform is a daily struggle. The items I am requesting will not only be used this year but for years to come.
