My students need an incubator that can be used for birds (chicks, turkeys, ducks & geese) along with reptiles. Our plan is to be able to learn the life processes of the organisms that we study.

My Students
Our school is one of four high schools in the county and has about 1300 students. We are considered rural compared to other areas and have a good diversity of students, economically and culturally. As a general rule our students either go to college or the technical center located in our county.
Our school has recently introduced zoology to our students for the first time ever.
Students are passionate about the class but it requires a lot of materials to be effective. Since it is a class that typically students do in college, I feel it is a good step in getting them interested in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) courses.
My students in general are passionate about animals, learning about them and identifying where they live. We have started talking about how animals relate to other organisms and how over time animals evolve. We have also been focusing on similarities between reproduction of different organisms.
My Project
In my zoology class, I want my students to gain an appreciation of life that surrounds us. By having an incubator in our classroom, students will be able to see the birth of a chicken and marvel at the transformation from egg to gecko. Being able to read and learn about the process of life is inspiring, but my students being able to take a fertilized egg and see the birth of a living thing is enlightening.
In my zoology class, I think students should not only learn about life but experience it.
In our culture, students do not get the opportunity to be exposed to the processes of how things occur. Students see a chicken but often don't realize how it developed from an ordinary egg (fertilized) that could be eaten for breakfast to a living, breathing being.
