Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This school year has been filled with many changes and exciting lessons. Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade are tough, but fun years. My students try their hardest despite their academic and behavioral issues. It is my hope to instill in them the knowledge to get them through their last years in elementary school, as well as to prepare them for high school and beyond. I strive to create a warm, safe, and welcoming learning environment where every student feels successful and loved.
I teach in a low-poverty neighborhood in Chicago.
My students are predominately Hispanic and African American and all of them receive special education services for academics and/or behavior. Although they struggle on a daily basis, they are motivated to do well and strive to work to their highest potential. They are hard working and excited to learn. My 6th, 7th and 8th graders deserve the best education, materials, technology, and books I can get for them. I want their last years in elementary school to be filled with many academic achievements and great memories. I truly enjoy teaching my students and want to give them the best experience I can!
My Project
My students struggle to learn even basic math concepts. I did not realize how easily they forget what they had previously learned or haven't even learned certain concepts. The materials requested will help my students, and I understand what level they are currently at and help them improve their skills to possibly reach their current grade level. Since all of my students are diverse learners, they have struggles and sometimes get down on themselves because they feel that they are different.
My students work so hard to do well despite their disabilities and they truly want to be better at math.
With the materials requested, I can help them reach those goals. We will be able to do independent work using the different cards and I'll be able to do different stations with them using the different cards as well. My students and I will supplement worksheets for task cards and hopefully improve their skills. I want to provide my students with the best education that I can and having materials like the ones requested can make learning fun and easier for them!
